Early Beginners
While there is no specific minimum age requirement for a child to begin playing the flute, the student must be able to hold the flute comfortably and remain attentive for a 30 minute flute lesson. I find that this is usually possible around age 7. Smaller children can begin on a curved headjoint flute, which allows them to properly reach the keys of the instrument and maintain proper body alignment. I love working with students from the very beginning, so that I can teach them proper embouchure, tone formation and technique from the start.
Middle School Beginners
Are you a middle schooler just starting out on the flute? Don’t worry! I can help you get a solid start on the flute so you can join your friends who have already been playing for a couple of years in the school band. With private lessons, you can get the individual attention and training that you need to catch up to the level of your peers, and beyond!
Intermediate and Advanced Students
Are you bored in band class? Would you like to challenge yourself to try out for All County or All State? Are you preparing for an audition or Solo and Ensemble? Do you just love playing the flute? Private lessons are the perfect way to level up your playing skills and learn beyond what you can learn in band alone. I can teach you advanced techniques in tone, articulation and musicality to make your flute playing stand out from the rest.
Homeschool Students
Looking to add music to your homeschool curriculum? Why not learn all about music in a fun and interactive way by learning how to play the flute! Not only will you learn how to read music and count rhythms, but you will be able to play beautiful music for your family and friends. I offer daytime lesson slots for my homeschool students and other students who have availability during the day.
Adult Students
Whether you used to play the flute growing up and want to brush up on your skills, rediscover your love for music, or if learning how to play the flute is something you have always wanted to do, I can help you! Flute lessons are a great way to treat yourself to something just for you, all while reigniting your desire to learn and create. Enjoy the harmonies of playing with another flutist as we play duets together as part of your learning experience. I am happy to offer flexible scheduling for my busy adults.
